Hospice Southeastern Connecticut Call Center
Hospice Southeastern Connecticut has created a Call Center for those seeking help and information regarding end-of-life care. When it comes to making decisions about the care of a loved one who is facing a life-limiting illness, there are many choices to be considered. While Hospice Southeastern Connecticut’s care is available on-call after the administrative office has closed; our normal business hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Call Center will be staffed by professionals Monday – Friday 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and will allow those not in our care but who are seeking information to have their questions answered. The call center professionals will answer questions, assess the appropriateness of hospice care and will be able to help guide the patient and their family through the steps of hospice care helping to alleviate fears, misconceptions and anxiety. The Call Center number is 860- 367-5351.
“We are working to provide access to those individuals who may work during the day and don’t have time or are unable to call during the day to explore their choices. We are just a phone call away when they finally have the time to ask questions.” said Carol L. Mahier, Executive Director, Hospice Southeastern Connecticut.
This program has been made possible thanks to the generosity of a grant from Pfizer. “We are pleased to support Hospice Southeastern Connecticut. Pfizer supports programs that broaden access to quality health care and combat the health challenges facing our communities.” stated Monica Tijerina, Community Affairs Manager at Pfizer.
Mahier adds, “We hope this Call Center will allow the community to reach out to us earlier, before there is a crisis. We so often hear families say that they wish they had called us earlier. Hospice Southeastern Connecticut has a wide range of services and we want our patients to have the time to use them all, if they wish. We have trained volunteers as well as complementary therapists such as massage therapists and energy practitioners for those who are on our program long enough to use them. That first phone call can make all the difference.”
Hospice Southeastern Connecticut is a community based, non profit organization serving New London County since 1985. It provides end of life care in the home to patients and families regardless of age, disease or ability to pay. It also, in many cases, can provide care in skilled nursing facilities. Bereavement support is provided to the families for 13 months after the death of their loved one. Hospice Southeastern Connecticut also offers bereavement services free of charge to the community regardless of whether the death occurred under hospice care. A weekly Expressive Arts program for children, teens and adults help the bereaved cope with their loss in a non-threatening environment.
